For the past 17 years, I have worked in some capacity in higher education and professional development. This includes presentations at national, state, and local conferences as well as experience in university teaching both online and face-to-face, program coordination, program evaluation, grant-writing, assessment/accreditation processes, and research. Topics I address with the most passion and experience are grief of living losses, diversity perspectives, family-centered practices, inclusive practices in educational settings, and the experiences of families that include individuals with disabilities.
I have a Ph.D. in Special Education with a focus in early
childhood development and families, a master's degree in Education and a master's degree in Psychology. Yes, I'm a life-long learner... and apparently
a work-aholic (if you ask my spouse, lol).
My wife is a health and forensic psychologist, who specializes in work with juveniles and families. We have five children: three angel boys, Avery, Ryle, and Graham who would be 11, 10, and 10 this year. A daughter, Jenny, who is 14 years old and a son, Neal, who is 18 and fiercely independent. Neal has multiple disabilities associated with CHARGE syndrome, including congenital heart disease and deafness. Our life experiences related to disability have shaped me into everything that I am. As he grows, so do I.
